Iowa State University (ISU) campus has limited parking resources. Contractors working on campus need to follow parking rules to ensure efficient use of these resources. Here is a guide to help contractors understand parking options available for their vehicles during construction projects.

Designated Construction Parking

Contractor parking is only allowed in areas designated in the contract documents.

Fenced Construction Sites

  • Contractors must park within the fenced area for construction.
  • No parking permit is required inside the fence.
  • Vehicles outside the fenced area will be ticketed.

Limited Parking Spaces

  • In areas with limited on-site parking, Owner’s Representative may designate spaces.
  • These spaces are for loading/unloading materials or vehicles requiring frequent access.
  • These spaces are not for personal contractor vehicle parking.
  • Signs will indicate construction parking spaces.

Additional Parking for Workers

  • If parking is unavailable on-site, contractors can park in the southwest corner of the Iowa State Center parking lot (Lots A3, A4, B4, B5, B6).

Construction Storage Area (Wanda Daley Drive)

  • This area cannot be used for daily contractor vehicle parking or vehicle maintenance.
  • Construction equipment storage requires Owner’s Representative approval.

Iowa State Center Parking

  • Free Parking for workers in the southwest corner of the Iowa State Center parking lot (Lots A3, A4, B4, B5, B6).
  • Transportation: Contractors are responsible for shuttling workers from the Iowa State Center to the job site.
    • Cy-Ride Orange Route offers shuttle service.
    • Shuttles can only carry workers, not materials or equipment.
  • Overnight Parking: Contractors wishing to park vehicles overnight must contact ISU Parking Services for arrangements.
  • Construction Material Deliveries: Approval is required from the Owner’s Representative to stage construction materials or park trucks at Iowa State Center lots.

Construction General Staff Permits

  • Contractors with time and material contracts can purchase up to two Construction General Staff Parking Permits.
    • These permits allow parking in designated general staff parking areas on campus.
    • Permits must be paid for as part of the contractor's overhead costs.

Material and Equipment Deliveries

Delivery Scheduling

  • If designated parking is insufficient, deliveries may need to occur outside of normal hours (7:30 am to 5:00 pm).
  • Major deliveries should be coordinated with the Owner’s Representative.
